Wedding Planning Tips

You might groan out loud when you discover what it takes to plan a wedding, so get organised and rely on what we like to term “delegation”. Also consider dragging your future spouse into the decisions, after all it takes two to tango.

The average engagement lasts approximately 18 months, so take out your little pink diary (or wedding app) and get planning. It does not matter how much time you have to plan your wedding, the list remains the same of things to do. Tackle it logically and everything will go smoothly.

Things to consider when planning your wedding.

  • Choose a date – that sounds logical but so many decide the date to late and then find themselves without a church, reception or flowers.

  • Budget – Most important, you know what you can afford and stick to it. Give yourselves at least a 10 to 15% leeway….. things happen. Here you should finalize your guest list, so you can budget the entertainment, venue and drinks budget.

  • Wedding Venue and theme – Do you know what kind of wedding you want? Formal, informal, church, registry….. We even getting married jumping out of airplanes these days. Find your dream wedding venue and plan your wedding around what sort of wedding you have chosen. Book your venue early to avoid disappointment.

  • Entourage – Choose who you would like to be the maid of honour, bridesmaids, best man, pageboys and ushers.  This is an individual choice for bride and groom….. Try not to argue, just agree on how many people you want and don’t feel obligated, it’s your day.

  • Wedding attire – Every girl’s favourite topic, THE DRESS….. yipeee time to start shopping. Make sure your bridesmaids dresses and the grooms’ party is included so you don’t clash on the day.
  • Wedding décor and food – There is a lot that goes into planning the décor and food for your special day, so get friends and family involved.  Search the web for designs and ideas … you are sure to find some that you will love. If you not self-catering or baking the cake yourself, get caterers to give you samples. Book all the vendors including florist, caterers, dj’s  and any other vendor that is part of your wedding celebration.

  • Wedding legalities – This is a hard one for many couples that are head over heels, but the reality is that divorce does happen. Get yourselves a prenup, even if you begin your married life with no assets or liabilities. On a more pleasant note: Don’t forget to apply for your marriage licence.

There is really so much to do for a wedding, it could become overwhelming. Don’t lose sight that it is your day and friends and family are there to support you. Most of all, enjoy the planning of your dream wedding………. ALWAYS remember, the most memorable things in life are usually the most chaotic. Things can go wrong so laugh and the wedding party will laugh with you.
